Upcoming Events 2011

April
Shachella will celebrate the anniversary of her appearance in the 2010 edition of "Who's Who in Black Houston", which was unveiled on April 26th 2010, at the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Houston.  "Who's Who in Black Houston" serves an important role in the community by raising the profile of African American leaders in the corporate, government, education, non-profit and business communities. It is a tremendous resource for anyone who wants to understand the contributions by African-American leaders to the growth and prosperity of Houston.

The National Black Book Festival returns to the Houston George R. Brown Convention Center.  Again, Shachella encourages readers of all genres to attend the event and to take advantage of meeting hundreds of veteran and up and coming authors, all under one roof.  And, remember to order your copy of Sentarse Means Sit.  It will make excellent summer reading for the children in your life!



October
Shachella will walk/run with her Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Zeta line sisters and friends in the Houston Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, celebrating cancer survivorship for the loved ones in her life.  The 3.1 mile run supports breast cancer research.  The race route is through downtown Houston.  Zeta line will walk/run in honor of their sorority sister who endured and is beating her cancer diagnosis.  The Zeta line is honoring their soror's survivorship as a general testament to total cancer recovery, beyond breast cancer.


Past Events 2010

January
Yes,  it's that time again!  On January 17, Shachella will participate in the Aramco Half Marathon (Chevron Houston Marathon)!


February
On February 25th, Shachella will share diversity and culture appreciation experiences with kindergartners at Lexington Creek Elementary school in Sugar Land, TX.  Shachella be will a guest author onsite to read Sentarse Means Sit and lead a guided life lessons learned session with the children after the storytime.  The guided reading will be a great time for all!


April

Shachella appeared as guest author at a "Bookday" party.  Shachella lead a "bookday" reading session for children in attendance, discussed the importance of diversity and took audience questions.  The attendees had a fun time listening to the author's narration of Sentarse Means Sit
!

January
Shachella was unable to participate in this year's Aramco Half Marathon (Chevron Houston Marathon); however, she is always encouraged by the participation of others and appreciates the charitable efforts the funds from Marathon and Half Marathon support.  Look forward to her participation in the January 2010 event!

April
On April 26th, Shachella will run in the New York City based More Half Marathon.  Visit www.more.com for more information about the 2009 event.

May

On June 7th, Shachella celebrated the one year anniversary of the official launch of Sentarse Means Sit.  Shachella also continued her public relations and media blitz campaigns, distributing media kits to local booksellers.  Keep your eyes open for Shachella's author signings or children's storytime events at a book seller near you!

July
On July 30, 2009 at First Colony Montessori in Sugar Land, TX, Shachella will host a summer reading session for toddlers and pre-kindergarten students there.  The students are sure to have a fun time listening to the author's narration of Sentarse Means Sit
! 

And, plan to cheer Shachella on as he kicks off another running season with the Fort Bend Fit Running Club.

August
Foster literacy in your young reader.  Host a 'Read, Review and Run' back to school playdate.  Read Sentarse Means Sit.  When the reading session is finished, review the concepts and then have fun running around the neighborhood finding things that are similar and those that are different.  Celebrate the diversity in your local community.  Encourage your child to share this information as a "what I did this summer" topic when he returns to school!



Past Events 2008


May
On May 16th, the National Black Book Festival kicks off in Houston, TX.  Shachella will be a featured exhibitor and will also lead a Children's Book Reading session.  The Festival is at the George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston.

June
On June 7th, Shachella will celebrate the official launch of Sentarse Means Sit.  The book signing event was a fun evening of networking, socializing and good food on the patio at Open City, midtown Houston's newest bistro ~ bar ~ restaurant.

July
In Washington, DC, Shachella will join thousands of her sorority sisters to celebrate the Centennial Boule and acknowledge the rich sisterhood of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

The Learning Planet, Inc. selected Sentarse Means Sit to be a featured children's storybook on Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) television.  The book will be featured on Rima, Fuego and the Children.

August
On the weekend of August 8th, the Willowridge High School Class of 1988 will host its 20 Year Class Reunion... "Funny How Time Flies!"

September
On September 21st, Shachella will host the monthly meeting of the 'More Than Talk' book club.  The focus of the meeting is Motivation and Self-Help.

October
October 4th, Shachella will run with the "Pink Ponies" Team in the Houston Komen Race for the Cure.  The 3.1 mile run supports breast cancer research.  The race route is through downtown Houston.

Later in the month, on October 21st, Shachella will present Sentarse Means Sit to the Ouachita Parish School Board (OPSB) in northeast Louisiana.  OPSB, like other school districts, is "committed to academic excellence for ALL students".  Sentarse Means Sit is a unique learning tool that can be used to support that endeavor.


December
